Victimhood = Self Preservationist
I began reflecting on times in my life where I felt as if I were the victim or was experiencing victimhood. At some point in our lives we can all say that we are the victim of an unfortunate situation. Something you have no control over takes place in your life and you are now left to deal with the aftermath.
While deep diving on the thought of victimhood and how the feeling of it felt, I tried to identify if the feeling of it was similar to any other experiences I have had. My conclusion was that it was the feeling I felt, especially early on, in my journey when I was in fight or flight mode.
The fight or flight mode is something we experience much more often than we realize. Fight or flight mode activates in any scenario where you come to the end of your ability to think clearly. When you run down your road of normal responses and none of them work, at this point, either survival mode occurs or you get very intentional with your thinking, words, and actions.
Survival mode is what will lead us to our article title. At our most base levels our innate desire is to survive. Victimhood, the mentality, is initiated when the constant “flight” portion of the mechanism is chosen. In steps the true identity of a “victim” and that is a self preservationist. A human who at all costs, makes sure that they will at least squeak by.
Now, I get it. As I stated in the beginning, we are all victims at some point. Terrible things happen to us that examples are not necessary for. These are situations that have occured and it is then on our shoulders to choose how we will deal with it.
GREAT NEWS!! There is a skill you can learn to prepare yourself for tough life events and you do not have to wait for a traumatic event to occur in order to begin practicing this skill. All you have to do is start paying attention.
How fast can you notice what is actually happening, in as many senses as possible?
