Life as a Choice

What if I told you it was really that simple. Whether a situation you had control of creating or not, the ability to make a choice always exists and is always made. Cognitively is the greatest way to make these.

Being human is a skill. Well, a bunch of them all mixed up into one body. As of now we are the only animals we know that have the ability to think about their thoughts. With that power comes the ultimate one, the ability to make a choice.

From here sit back and reflect on your typical day and see how many decisions you made.

Did you wake up by an alarm?

What was your response after it went off?

Did you eat?

What did you eat?

Why didn’t you eat?

Were you on time to where you needed to be?

Why did you need to be there?

What led to the situation where on this day you needed to be there at any particular time?

Why on this day are the things you need to do the things you need to do?

The reality is that you are always making a choice, whether you realize it or not. Most people feel a little prickly at the idea of making choices. Freezes them up, it’s hard to order at restaurants because when the ultimate time comes you have to make a choice and if the one you choose isn’t what you want you blame yourself and wish you would have picked the other. “Of course, I always pick the wrong one.” That little statement goes off in your mind and now you are down the self destructive tunnel only because you picked some food you didn’t like.

Unless you make another choice, it's just food and you will be hungry again in a few hours and won’t even remember this shit meal you just ate and are wasting so much energy on now.

The majority of choices are not as final as you think and therefore need to be viewed differently. The best description I have heard so far is that choices are 2 way doors. Make a choice, go inside, check it out, if you like it stay and if not go back out the door and make a new choice.

The feelings we have about our choices are typically what beat us up so much, especially if we hold ourselves completely to the results. Things turn out all different sorts of ways, maintaining the mind of the scientist and adventurer is best. Even when you have the best ingredients, sometimes things still do not turn out the way you thought they would. Learning to detach from the results and look at them as the results of choices made, you will start to see the where, when and why of your life. When you start to see the gravity of your choices and that you have spent everyday up until this point making a series of choices. Each one creating a new reality to make another choice in and thus creating a new reality each time. Your life is the result of your choices. Being cognitive for as many of those choices as possible is your best bet at creating the life you want. We have absolute control over the choices we make. When things arrive in life, whether by our creation or not, the choices we make are our own responsibility.

How much responsibility have you been taking?
