Who Am I?
“My name is Micah and I was born in 1985. Raised in a small town and grew up about as backwoods as one can.”
That is about the typical way we start our stories. In my opinion though this a story about me, and not who I actually am. Yes, we are the sum of our experiences and thoughts and those are what have created the person we are today. But from a position of internal power, the proverbial rising to your feet, express who you are.
I am Micah Johnson. I am an emotional person who feels things deeply, especially for others. I tend to care more about other people than I do myself. I seek validation in others and have a hard time believing in myself due to the story I tell me about me. I discount my experiences and render them invalid and continue seeking others for my truth and validation. At the same time when doing this I also discount any validation I receive by telling myself “they are just saying that to be nice.”
Coming from a cynical mind set and culture, these are easy things to adopt. We bounce back and forth like ping pong balls in the 4th round of a beer pong tournament. When we get what we seek from others we discount it, say it isn’t real and then go looking for it again. It is a dry well we keep throwing our bucket into and never get anywhere. Literally, Einstein’s definition of insanity.
So now where do we go? Well, beginning with your true definition of who you are, now you can read it and see where you want to make changes.
I have made it through some of the darkest times I have yet to experience in life and each day continue to grow stronger. I have taken a look at my weaknesses and identified areas in my life I want to improve and continue each day in doing that. I am currently writing this, which is one of the things that brings me joy and satisfaction. I am writing poetry again which is something I haven’t done since my late teenage years and brings me absolute joy. I am playing golf again and actually enjoying my time out there instead of letting guilt derail me at every turn. I am becoming a less black and white thinker and person. I am giving space between my thoughts and actions. To sum it up, I am and am becoming a well balanced, responsible person who thinks deep, feels deep, loves deep and wants to enjoy life to its fullest. I am creating a life that allows me to be me.
I am Micah Johnson.
